The new Health and Safety at Work Act is due to be implemented on 4 April 2016. It has been a long awaited change and has come about as a result of the Pike River Catastrophe and the subsequent three year investigation. As a result of that investigation it was apparent that significant improvements were needed to improve the landscape of Health and Safety in New Zealand.
It has taken two years to determine the improvements that were needed and to write new legislation that is hoped will address and improve the Health and Safety of the workplaces in New Zealand. WorkSafe New Zealand is the governing body who will engage, educate and enforce the new Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
